Background: For the better part of the last 12 years, I have worked in some way-shape-or form in healthcare as a physical therapist. Back in March at the start of COVID, I ended a work contract early due to the clinic needing to significantly reduce capacity and quickly found myself scrambling to figure out ‘what’s next’, and, ‘how can I help?’

I have watched as many of my friends who are nurses and physicians have had to gear-up daily to head into crazy ‘front line mode’ sometimes without even the right PPE, working several days straight and witnessing things that they had not seen in their career. Meanwhile, I also watched as many of my colleagues and ancillary healthcare providers were laid off and lost jobs due to limited volume allowances in the clinic or decreased case load.

Burnout Is Real.. Love Your Home Base

2020 hasn’t been an easy year for most people, healthcare providers especially. Prior to COVID 19, I had done some research on the role of moral injury and burnout in this group of professionals. I had researched how surf therapy may even be an avenue to help heal some of our front line workers. Certainly pre-COVID, these were concerns I had for my colleagues, and now, more than ever, I feel these issues exist exponentially.

Daily since COVID began ‘how can I figure out how to help mitigate burnout and exhaustion for healthcare providers like myself. From a physical therapist standpoint, I have had to pivot my own practice, shifting towards telehealth as my main platform to practice, making it feel safer to reach my clients. Then however, I decided to take things a step further and give in a different way. With the development of Carpenter Realty Group in November 2020, I have decided to partner with Homes For Heroes to give back to the healthcare community.

Healthcare professionals who partner with this program will receive money back from the Homes For Heroes program, usually approximately a $700.00 rebate per 100k spent buying/selling their home. For those Heroes working in southern California, where housing costs are such a large part of our living expenses, that kind of a rebate can truly add up.

If you or someone you know works in the healthcare industry and is interested in buying or selling their home, please reach out to me so we can discuss how I can best help.
